How can I tell if a digital tv tuner is strong enough to receive the signal in my home?

My friend's laptop tv tuner and small antenna receives digital tv in my home, but when I bought a digital TV it didn't receive anything so I returned it. Apparently some digital tv tuners are better/stronger than others but how can you know?

take a guess at a good brand i have a samsung tv with freeview built in and that isnt as good as my sony play tv (like sky plus for ps3)

You probably either need an antenna or you need to learn how to program the digital tv.

a tuner is a tuner.. no difference… it just converts the signal..

you still need an antenna. a tuner by itself is useless…
