    I already have one…

    PROS:
fast access time, huge capacity, 5 years warranty (Seagate is now only 3 years)

    CONS:
    hot, noisy

Using WinAAM reduces the noise but the access time suffers a lot.

    If you go higher …
If you go higher than 4 hard drives in Raid 0 you are pushing your luck, because if any one of those takes a crap you are screwed.
I put my OS in the stripe, but a lot of people also create a partition when installing Vista or whatever and put it in there

    I just purchased …
I just purchased and installed 2 of these. I put them in a RAID 0 array. When I first booted up my PC, there was a buzzing noise, and ever so often it buzzes again. I’ve only had the drives for less than a day, what is that?

    These drives are …
These drives are terrible. My second RMA’d drive just died after two months of non-continuous operation in an external enclosure, cooled by an external fan. Furthermore, I sat that drive on a corner table next to my desk to avoid any sudden vibrations while it operated. Granted, seeing the reports of the alarming frequency that Seagate 1TB drives are failing, maybe 1TB technology is not ready for prime time.

I have one of these pieces of crap and it crashed within two weeks taking many precious files with it. It was the Caviar Grren one though. Do yourself a favour - never buy WD drives.

    Green has better …
Green has better power consumption, quieter noise levels, and produces less heat than Black, but at a cost of performance.

    I have this drive …
I have this drive in my new PC, and all I can say is : this drive is much much better than my old 40 GB drive from 2002 :-) This one is cooler too 35C at idle and 37C at full load (compared to 55C on the old one lol). The one thing i didn’t liked but it’s not a very big problem was the noise levels. This is not a quiet drive. But I’m used to noise ( my old HDD was noisy as hell)

    Let me guess, your …
Let me guess, your friend considers himself something a computer “guru” or something right? I am a computer technician for a local repair shop and the people who come in with the most screwed up computers are the ones who followed the advice of their “X” who is really into computers.
You should 1)take the time to inform your friend he was wrong
2)Never take anything you hear on faith. You can easily look this stuff up. If you have any interest that is.
